Sir Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle adalah penulis dari Inggris yang paling dikenal lewat tokoh ciptaannya detektif Sherlock Holmes

Ia dilahirkan tanggal 22 Mei 1859. Ia menempuh pendidikan di Inggris dan Austria sebelum kemudian mendapat gelar dokter dari Universitas Edinburgh dan membuka praktek di Southsea, Inggris pada tahun 1882. Selain menjadi seorang dokter, Ia juga meluangkan waktu untuk menulis buku. Selama hampir satu tahun dia bekerja sebagai dokter di kapal sehingga dia mendapat kesempatan untuk menjelajahi berbagai tempat di dunia. Pada tahun 1891, ia berhenti menjadi dokter dan memutuskan untuk mulai menjadi penulis buku.

Ia pernah menulis dua novel yang tak pernah diterbitkan dan juga kisah-kisah lainnya. Beberapa di antaranya adalah "Perbuatan-perbuatan Berani Brigadir Gerard" (1896), dan beberapa karya lainnya tentang Brigadir Gerard. Dia juga menulis cerita fiksi ilmiah tentang petualangan Prof. Challenger. Selain itu, dia juga menulis cerita tentang peperangan. Semasa Perang Boer (1899-1902), ketika kaum Boer berperang melawan Inggris di Afrika Selatan banyak nyawa yang melayang. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle saat itu bekerja di salah satu rumah sakit di Afrika Selatan dan menulis buku berjudul "Perang Besar Boer" (1900).

Pada tahun 1886, ia menciptakan tokoh Sherlock Holmes yang diilhami dari Dr. Joseph Bell, salah satu dosennya, lewat "A Study in Scarlet". Buku ini diterima publik dengan baik, tetapi baru mulai terkenal tahun 1891, ketika ia menengahkan serial petualangan Holmes bersama sahabat setianya, Dr. Watson. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle meninggal pada tahun 7 Juli 1930.
